My iRig Keys, i.e., piano keys, died, so I can’t write notes to play now.
I dabbled years ago with Dorico doing this, so I think it does exist, but I can’t find it now…
How can I find and use text keys from the ASDFGHJKL… keyboard, clunky as it is, until I get my piano keys back?
Well, pressing abcdefg while in note input mode with caret visible should produce the notes with those names!
Thanks, but I guess I need to clarify.
In my room there is only a computer screen and a keyboard for typing text. Dorico is connected to the computer, and it is running. There is a staff ready to be filled with musical notes if someone can cause that to happen. How can l supply the necessary stimulus? In other words, how do I make visible music notes? The notes don’t need to be audible at this time, just visible. (Audible music will come later when the necessary equipment is restored.)
Errrm… literally press A, B, C, D, E, F, or G on your QWERTY keyboard? Maybe I need my second cup of coffee.
Typing the actual note names on your QWERTY keyboard selects a pitch in the same way that playing the note on your MIDI keyboard does.
Edit: Here’s more about note input:
Is this what you’re after, a musical typing keyboard layout type of thing?
Otherwise yeah just type the notes as they are called…
I think if you start with the link I posted and follow other links from there, you’ll find what you need.
Ctrl-Opt-Up/Down arrow.
Oh perhaps I should not have teased you with that image – that was simply from a google image search for “musical typing keyboard” as a reference - I think that is actually from Logic.
AFAIK Dorico doesn’t have one, but I could be wrong. There is, however, a keyboard view, would that help somewhat?
