Entering notes in a two-line staff

Yesterday I figured out how to change a single=line staff for gongs to a 2-line staff. When I try to enter notes onto this staff Dorico only lets me put them into the space between the two lines and not onto either of the lines themselves. How do yo do this in Dorico (5)? Do I need to use some kind of a kit or grid?

You have a couple options and which one you should choose depends on what you’re trying to do.

If you just want to add notes to the lines themselves, you can use Edit Percussion Playing Techniques.

Making a percussion kit would involve adding additional instruments and assigning those to the lines/spaces you’d like to use.

Are you trying to get different techniques to play back?

Thanks for your suggestions—I will investigate them over the next day or so. I am not looking to play anything back here—just put the notes in the score.

Do you have some connection to Indiana University?

How does this move the noteheads form the space to one of the lines?

Either set up a percussion map to assign each line/space to a MIDI note, or you can use option/alt + up/down arrow to select which line/space to enter the note on.

In the clip I shared, I used option+shift+up/down to adjust the note immediately after entering it.
