When using this option in Dorico to enter notes over multiple staves, how does Dorico deal with the transposing instruments?
One word: Poorly.
Don’t do it. Notes will not be transposed differently according to each instreument’s transposition. Instead input will be calculated from the top instrument of your multi-staves-input-group.
It seems to be fine if you do it in Concert Pitch.
Indeed, this works. (But then I’m not thinking of them as “transposing instruments”.)
It would be sooo handy to spread the input caret across the whole sax section and input 5-voice-chords, but this is impossible currently.
I just entered 5 notes into a brass quintet and got the proper transposed notes using note entry in multiple staves. The key is to go into the Write menu->Input Pitch and choose Sounding pitch. Here’s the link to the help page Steinberg
That isn’t at all what I would like to see: In your case I hit a C on the keyboard and get an A in my sax players’ staff.
What I would like is to have the transposition taken from the top staff (1st sax in Eb), play 5 notes, and have those that belong to instruments in Eb stay as they are, and those that belong to tenor saxes be transposed to Bb.
Perception vs perspective… ; - )
As the arranger, wouldn’t you want to see what your players see?
Maybe I have transposition wrong to begin with.
