Entering percussion

I use Groove Agent SE5 for my percussion parts. It has 16 sounds available, but if I’m entering notes in my percussion staff (via Y-key, combined with note length) there are only a few sounds available. No rim shot for instance. I can enter them if I record them manually (Command R), but not step by stip via the Y-key. How can I make sure that all the sounds are available the ‘normal’ way?

You can use Alt+up/down arrow to cycle through the available playing techniques for the instrument before you hit Y.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, but I don’t think it works. If I press Alt+up/down the cursor doesn’t cycle round, if I onlu use the up- and down arrow the only sounds that are visible are (from up to down): Cr. Cymbal, H-hat, R. Cym., Tom 1, Tom 2, Sn.Dr., Fl.Tom, K. Dr. and H.Hat (below). Sounds like rimshot, cowbell etc. are not visible, so I can’t enter them into the staff.

Hi @webuplease,

The Option(Alt)+up or down arrow shortcut, cycles though the available Playing techniques for the instrument present in your Kit (and currently selected in the caret). In the factory Standard Drum Kit, for example, only the snare drum has 4 different PT assigned to it.:

Can you upload an example, to see your kit setup?

It’s possible you’ve made changes to the default key commands in a way that has disabled this functionality. See this other recent thread:

Mine looks exactly the same, Christian. But how can I get all these snare drum techniques visible in my staff when I’m entering notes? There’s no rim shot, no cross stick and no side stick sound.

I did not do any of the above (Note Input > Lower Shadow Note by Step and Raise Shadow Note by Step) but I will look into it. Maybe that is the solution. Ik will keep you posted.

@webuplease

Here is what you can try (a different method to assign Playing Techniques for the Perc. instrument, to see if the setup is working correctly, first):

I think I’m getting there, trial and error. Thanks!

Found it, thanks!
