I’m trying to enter a measure that consists of a dotted quarter note, an eighth note, and a triplet of three quarter notes. I can’t see how to enter the triplet. Any suggestions? Thanks.
If you are still in note entry, just invoke the tuplet popover with ; and enter 3:2q
This means create a tuplet with 3 quarters in the space of 2 quarters.
If you do not include the q, then Dorico will assume the basis of the tuplet is whatever the current note duration is, which is probably an eighth in your scenario.
(Oh. And welcome to the forum!)

Thank you! I hadn’t tried that, and I think that will solve the problem. - Bill Arden
