I’m writing for the harp, but without including pedal markings. Whenever I change an accidental, an error‑checking message appears. Does anyone know how to prevent these messages from showing up? Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi @bjbd191, if you don’t want to be bothered by those proofreading messages about inconsistent harp pedaling, you can deactivate the Instrument Ranges category, from the filter in the Proofreading panel on the right. (I hope this is what you mean with “error‑checking message”).
This make other possible instrument ranges warnings invisible, thought.
Alternatively you can click on the ignore icon (eye icon)to temporarily hide specific warning/s.

I’m translating from the French version of Dorico, so I really was referring to “Proofreading”, indeed! By disabling “Instrument ranges”, the messages disappear — thanks for the tip. It wasn’t obvious to think of disabling that option, because in the French version it’s translated as “suites d’instruments” (instruments suite).
Allow me one more question regarding harp pedals: I have to select “Calculate harp pedals” for every new accidental in order for the pedal diagram to appear. Is there a faster method? I tried selecting the entire score so Dorico would analyze everything at once, but that doesn’t work.

Procedure
- In Write mode, select the region you want to use to calculate harp pedaling in one of the following ways:

Select an existing single note from which you want to calculate harp pedaling.

Select a range of notes for which you want to calculate harp pedaling.

- Choose Write > and thenCalculate Harp Pedals.
Side note to the team: I never noticed, since I’m using the English version, but there is indeed a translation mistake here. “Instrument ranges” should be translated as e.g. “Tessitures” in French. Suites d’instruments doesn’t make sense!
I did try proceeding this way (selecting a region, then ‘Calculate Harp Pedals’), but it only shows the pedal diagram for the first bar, and if accidentals appear later on, the pedal changes do not appear.
It calculates the best pedal set for the selection, but may not be able to accommodate all notes.
If you activate view>note and rest colours>notes out of range you will see the notes that can’t be played with the current pedals show in red. You can then make a different selection and add a new pedal set.
There have been a number of discussions on harp pedalling. I think the concensus was that composers should use them to check playablility, but not show them in the harp part, as harpists prefer to position their own pedal changes.
