I’m quite often (not always) getting the following error message:
It crashes the playback system but Dorico itself remains functional.

The crash is in your Fireface ASIO driver
Do you have the latest driver installed? Alternatively can you switch to a different audio device?
Ah thanks for the pointer. Normally RME Drivers never crash. There was a Driver update from 2 days ago which I just installed. Will observe and see if that solves the problem.

Just a little follow-up on this in case anyone is stumbling across this post with a similar problem: the driver update solved it for me, no error messages or crashes since the update. Thanks again @JuergenP for the help.
