I’m part of the great Finale Exodus.
I apparently downloaded Dorico for iPad long enough ago I forgot about it, but at the time usually used Notion when working on iPad for quick and dirty charts. Then I’d use Finale to make them look pro. But a few months ago, PreSonus destroyed Notion. It’s utterly unusable. I was reinvesting in more time at the desktop Mac to just go back to Finale for whatever I needed … when MakeMusic did the unthinkable.
But that was three whole days ago, and I have gigs coming up with a sax sub that needs charts because my usual player just learned the song off the recording neither of us wrote out some of these songs I need written out now.
I’m transcribing a wild sax-lead song (Blow by Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses), learning Dorico, okay this ain’t so bad. I pick up the iPad about an hour ago to finish the transcription/chart today …. The song won’t open. All I get is at 21%, it stops abruptly and says “error opening file.” Nothing more. No why there’s an error, no corrupted file notice, nada.
… And now I’m stuck possibly starting over. Not the end of the world, but I am already on a super tight time crunch, and I do not have time to repeat work; especially if I don’t know why it messed up and the same thing could possibly happen again! It wasn’t working perfectly (I have no control over the play head, for example), but it was producing a clean chart and I loved that it didn’t make me trick it to use Jazz Font, but now I have nothing.
I see the issue elsewhere in these forums, but no solutions and people sounding like they have no concept of how this might happen … I’m hopeful there’s an answer available before I blow hours recreating what I already did…. Ugh.
Suggestions? I’d love some admin support right about now.
