Error while importing flows

Hi all,

I am engraving 6 trios for clarinet, violin and bass.

I finished the first 3 trios and saved them after making a lot of corrections. I made the necessary corrections in the next 3 trios and saved these in another file with exactly the same setup as the first 3. Now I want to import these last 3 trios into the first 3. Everything goes very well, except for the violin that completely messes up. I tried everything, even manually copying the notes into the first file. Why is this going wrong?I have not used this forum except for maybe twice as I am a Dorico user since the first day.

Thank you for your help.

Maybe not answering your question as to why. There must be a frame or system break at the start, with the wait for next frame/ system break property ticked.

Jesper

I already filtered all breaks and deleted them without solution.

Some casting off setting, or negative/very small spacing?
You could use the library manager to compare to factory, or a file that’s ok.

Jesper

And I guess you had signposts shown when filtering them.

Jesper

Thanks for answering.

In that case, I also should have that problem with the clarinet and bass part.

This is the kind of problem that can be resolved very quickly, but only if we can examine the file itself. Without it everyone is just guessing.

Trios 1-3.dorico (2.8 MB)

Trios 4-6.dorico (3.3 MB)

You are absolutely right, here they are.

They look right when I open them.

As I said, select the Frame break and untick wait for next frame break..

Jesper

After unticking wait for next frame break.

You need to import Trios 4-6 into the Trios 1-3 file @billstevns.

Jesper

Yes to the solution, but the question remains. Why do those breaks appear in the merged file, when they do not exist in the unmerged file?

(EDIT: Is it perhaps because the final frame break in Trio 1-3 also has a wait for next frame break? Changing that seems to remove the problem)

(also @Guy_Cuyvers your bass instrument definitions are different between the files, so merging creates two different basses)

Thank you all very much for helping out, especially Jesper.

Your trick did the job!

Much obliged, Guy

Hi @Guy_Cuyvers, now that @jesele solved your issue (and his helpful reply deserves a Solution checkmark, also because doing so other users can find the answer faster) I noticed that you used two different instruments for the “Bass” player (*), and none of them is a sting instrument but a fretted instrument. The Merge Players functionality will create two Bass players if you leave as it is now when importing flows. You may want to change those instrument into Double Bass (and possibly rename the instrument as Bass) in both files before importing 4-6 into 1-3.

(*) (At least this is what I saw when opening your files…)

Another thing I noticed:
In the 4-6 file the name of flow V has a space at the end of the name (which you can see and correct in the Flows panel in Setup mode, or in the Project Info left panel. And flow VI is named as Flow IV. Just little things…

Thanks, @Janus. Yes, I suspected as much, but didn’t check.

Jesper

Thank you,

I solved the bass parts by moving bass 2 to bass 1 in setup mode and renaming them to bass. The flow names are correct now.

I also checkmarked Jeseles’ solution.
