I’m using Nuendo as my main DAW and it’s almost impossible to get a normal dB-value when turning my MC Pro’s Soft Knobs.
When dialling my Control Room Knob for instance, it always returns values like -10.1dB or 0.17dB instead of -10dB and 0dB. And when trying to get it from 0.17dB to 0dB it jumps between 0.17db and -0.02dB…Quite annoying…
The same counts for editing plugin-in parameters or when using the jog-dial to change an events’ gain for instance…
The time has come for some improvement I think…
Steinberg; is it possible to spend some time to make the EU-Con implementation up to date please?
Or am I doing something wrong?
As long as it sounds good none of your customers is going to complain because you moved the fader to -0.02 instead of 0.
It wasn’t a problem when things were analog…
Thanks for your comment Oliver.Lucas,
my customers -indeed- are not complaining about the sonic quality, but they could start complaining about the time I need to get everything right to my personal needs because I actually do care about the rounding-off issues…
that if you take any analog consoles and set the faders to 0dB you will see that the tolerance is much higher than -0.02 dB on every channel
every system that translates analog fader movements to digital and back introduces some errors. Also there has to be some degree of “relaxation” built into the fader position measurements otherwise the system will constantly dance around a parked value which is not very helpful either
-0.02 level difference is inaudible to the human ear
Thus I do not understand the background of the feature request. This may very well be limited by me not knowing your specific use cases.
All of your arguments are 100% legit and I wish I could live with it that my MC PRO’s faders and Soft Knobs show levels like -0.02dB (for instance)…but I can’t…
My -neat & tidy- psyche wants it to be exactly at 0dB or -10dB, or +3dB, and not at -0.02dB, -10.17dB or +3.1dB… that’s why I’d love to have an option in Nuendo’s EU-Con implementation which says: “round dB-values off to half- or whole numbers”…
I work a lot in live sound. The DiGiCo-consoles which I work with most, have an user-option saying “round dB values to whole numbers”. I know the underlaying audio is not rounded-off…it’s only the reading on the display which is being rounded off…that kind of option would come in very handy on my Nuendo/ MC Pro rig…
