Event Line Gain Renders With SL/”Make Extension Permanent” but still shows Line Gain

Hi,
I just realized that if you have Event Line Gain, open an instance of Spectralayers, and then ‘Make Extension Permanent’ it seems to render the event line gain, but still shows the event line gain but I believe it is actually inactive, as if you bounce the event it doesn’t double down on the gain process. But the gain processing is doubled for any line-gain sections below 0db

here you see Event Line Gain → ARA2 SL → Make Extension Permanent → Event Bounce → Then I edit undo the steps:

It doesn’t really make sense, because the wavegraphic is already adjusted when you do line gain, and I’ve made no changes in ARA2, yet once ‘Make Extension Permanent’ is used it has now doubled the gain processing for anything that was below 0db

as you can see in the image

-top is original,
-middle is Line gain without ARA2,
-bottom is same line gain as middle+ARA2+Make Extension Permanent(doubles gain reduction)+bounce(doesn’t triple gain reduction despite linegain graphic still visible)

imo, and I was hoping, line gain would work exactly as fades do with ARA2/SL

It’s a bit problematic, because sometimes you notice problems that need to be remedied with spectral editing AFTER you’ve already done a bunch of line gain…

edit

minor correction/clarification: The gain line isn’t automatically double rendnered:

  • ‘Gain line A’ on original file non-destructive
  • ARA 2 added - gain line doesn’t seem to render
  • ARA 2 make extension permanent = ‘gain line A’ rendered, but now ‘Gain Line B’ (duplication of A) is applied
  • Gain Line B applied but not rendered, you have to delete this gain to avoid double gain line render.

Yeah I get this problem here as well, but at least for me this is not particular to SL, but it happens with any ARA extensions.

Since N14, all line gain processing is applied twice whenever you put an extension onto an event. I thinks this is because in ARA, when you open an extension, it applies whatever DOP you had on the event before you put it, processes the extension on top of it, and if you “make permanent” it bakes everything into the clip. But the drawn gain line isn’t reset in the process, so you get this double gain bug.

Ideally it would apply the ARA after DOP but before gain line, but then you get the problem of not being able to draw gain into the DOP, which I guess is what is generally desirable. Or it would have to come before any DOP, but that doesn’t seem to be the way it works.

If Nuendo would just reset the drawn gain line whyle applying the changes before going into ARA it would be great already. I hate to do it manually and live with the huge gain changes in the meanwhile.
