Events per Track

I have a large project I’m finishing in Ableton. This project was created with 600 samples in a shotgun fashion, much like John Cage’s idea of throw rice on score paper. The problem is I have, on average, 3-12 different events on each track. The mixing is a real pain because of the way Live is set up.

At what point do you separate events to individual tracks? Or, do you always put an individual event on its own track?

I ask this because in Live, all effects are applied to the entire track and using automation to turn on these different effects can get…tedious, at best. On the other hand, mixing down 400 tracks can have its own challenges too.

What do you do?

Thanks,
Burt
