Exclude players from instrument changes or

Hi,

today’s morning I tried to find an option to exclude individual players from instrument changes.
I’m working on a rather big score for solo piano and symphonic orchestra and solo part is span on two keyboards (extra MIDI controller put on the grand piano). I’ve put two instrument into solo player in Setup mode, and I wondered if I could exclude the solo player from instrument changes, because sometimes it acts stupid, reducing the part to single grand staff with instrument changes every beat or so.

Or is there any other workaround for such a problem?

Library->Layout Options->Players->Allow Instrument Changes
(and remember to select the correct layout on the right side)

Hi Jesper,

thank you for your post. I obviously have it checked, but the issue I have is that I want to EXCLUDE single player (in my case solo pianist) from changes.

I meant uncheck it for the solo pianist.

Jesper

I might not be getting something, but how can I uncheck it for solo pianist in Full Score layout?

Yup, tried that, but that disables cross staff within that part. Thank you for your effort though!

Maybe you could add an extra staff in the piano for the keyboard part instead?

Jesper

Tried that as well, but it gets very messy at some points with brackets and grouped staves.

EDIT:
because there is no way or workaround to exclude players from switching instruments? I can’t really turn it off for the Full Score layout because of the different variants of the instruments (I want to avoid writing all of them in single staff because of different transpositions etc).

Sorry, out of ideas. Maybe someone will come up with a better solution.

If you add chord symbol regions it will prevent instrument change.

That suggests that you’ve got notes in alternating instruments every beat. How do you imagine the score should look for these two instruments?

Might they be better off as two “Players” (even if one person is playing them), and then using Hide Empty Staves…?

@jesele Sweet, I’ll take a look when I get back to a computer, but it seems that it would solve the issue :heart_on_fire:

@benwiggy like that:

Two players solution is generally a good idea, but unless Dorico allows cross-staff between players it’s a no go for me in this case :triumph:

Unfortunately not.

I’ve meant until :innocent:

Unless works equally well.
But Until, I hope.
