I’m trying to duplicate a trumpet exercise. I want both text and music frames on the pages. It worked on the first page but the second frame on the second page has no staff. I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out but am probably not asking the question correctly in the Dorrico resources. Thanks in advance for any help. I do so appreciate all the expertise in the Forum.
Hello, in “Engrave” mode, on page 2, you should see a purple sign post that says “SYSTEM BREAK.” (If you don’t see that, please go under View > Signposts > and make sure “Hide Signposts” is unchecked.) With “SYSTEM BREAK” highlighted, please open the properties panel on the bottom of the screen. You will see that “Wait for next system break” is toggled on. Toggle that off, and you will find that music now flows into the second frame on page two.
That’s the quick answer. The real experts will chime in soon probably with thoughts on how to approach this scenario the best (not this way ).
Dorico will generate staves/pages as long as there is music to display. All your music is displayed so no more staves are needed. Go to Setup mode and add a 4th Flow. It will appear in your empty music frame.
IMO Dorico is not a useful tool to create this kind of output. Use Dorico to produce the musical examples, but it is much easier to handle all the text and layout in a different app (even Word!). You can easily export your musical examples as graphic slices, which you can manipulate as images in your publishing app to get the result you want.
Janus: your suggestion really helped. Instead of using a notation file for lots of text and a few musical examples, I created a Word document with a few musical slices. Worked perfectly and very quickly, too. Thanks.
