Hi,
In an orchestration, I use the G flute, whose lowest note is G2. However, notes below C3 are not reproduced when played back. Changing the settings in Expression Map has no effect. How can I make this adjustment?
Thank you for your advice.

Isn’t that called an alto flute? It should be in the default list, probably with the correct range. Other possibility: your sound set simply lacks the lowest notes?
If you are using the Halion sounds, you could use the Halion Sonic Selection [GM074] Flute (with the default expression map)
@Janus has the correct instrument, but the expression map should be set to CC11 Dynamics.
The G flute is also the alto flute. I use Halion Sonic. After following your advice, I now only have piano sounds!
I must have got confused when using Halion. In fact, I can’t see [GM074].
Sorry, thank you for your patience.
Should the instrument be replaced or should CC11 be added to the expression map’s control change?
I found the starting point by returning to the default settings in the Playback Templates. So I don’t have the low notes on the alto flute. Please help me resolve this issue.
If I change the alto flute register in the Configuration menu, nothing happens. As shown in the attached screenshot.
Playback sound is determined by the capabilities of the VST sound set that you are using - nothing more.
If a sound set does not have the range to play particular notes, those notes will be silent.
The Dorico Factory Playback Templates make a best guess at matching the instruments in the score to the playback sounds bundled with Dorico. Unfortunately some instruments are not available and so sounds are substituted.
In your case, there is no Alto Flute in either the Iconica Sketch or HSO libraries, so Dorico substitutes a normal Flute. It is unable to play the full range of a physical Alto Flute because the necessary samples do not exist.
However, Dorico does include the Sonic Selection library, which has a Flute sound with no range limit, but the quality of that sound is very basic.
You can manually load the HSSE Flute, and apply the Expression Map it needs, in Play Mode.
In the Track Inspector tab, select your Alto Flute. Click the little e to open the Halion interface. Locate the [GM074] Flute in the Media Bay and drag it into correct slot. Finally change the Expression Map to CC11 Dynamics using the dropdown…
(NOTE: If you later reapply a Playback Template, all this will be reset to the factory default)
Hope this helps.
Thank you very much, Janus, for your very clear explanations. The sound quality isn’t great, but I have a complete overview of the music I’m writing.
It’s sorted.
Kind regards.
