Yes, there are limitations if the number of voices changes during the passage. Some of that may be unavoidable.
It’s not impossible to get this perfect.
It’s the same logic that is build into condensing.
Yes, I can see that it would be possible if voices are ignored. Maybe that could be an option when exploding?
The ideal would be for Dorico to separate notes regardless of whether they are on different voices or part of chords. This issue has been around for a long time (since the feature was introduced in Dorico 2, I believe), and I’m still hoping for improvements in this area.
This was possible—though not perfect—in my old Sibelius, and it’s the feature I miss most often in Dorico. When I need to separate staves imported from other software, it takes a lot of time.
I would be very grateful to the development team if this feature could be improved.
