Export MIDI with Note Expression Data?

Is there a way to do this?

The goal would be to be able to open MIDI regions that have individual MPE Note Expression data for use in other MPE compatible software (like Bitwig and/or MaxMSP).

Thanks!

No one knows?

Cubase already exports Note exp data, as regular controllers.

Looking at the spec for MPE, MIDI specifications for Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression (MPE) - Google Docs there’s no easy way to do it.

MPE is a brand new spec, It would require that Cubase remap all note expressions to the MPE way, where, in brief, each note is assigned two midi channels in order to extend the midi spec.

So you should post in feature requests.

Thanks for your reply Steve.

I’ve been testing this, trying to figure out how Cubase handles exporting controllers on different MIDI channels. It seems to condense them all (pitchbend and Aftertouch at least) down to channel 1. Is this what you’ve found in your experience as well?

Set the tracks’ channel to Any, and use CCs in Note Expression, not the controller lanes.

In the exported midi file, the controllers and notes will be on the channel you set the notes to. You can have multiple channels in one track.

Really helpful Steve thanks!
I’ll check this out.

Quick followup: If all of the notes have corresponding pitch-bend data attached to them then they all get collapsed down to one pitch-bend track if you dissolve the controller lanes down to CC’s correct?
