Exportation Cubase 14 to Dorico pro 5 : Missing velocities

I try to export from Cubase 14 to XML or directly to a Dorico project, but the velocities don’t follow. In Cubase, the velocities of each note are there. Once in Dorico, either via XML or via direct export to Dorico, nothing. No velocities appear. A solution?

The XML format does not carry any velocity data.
(I’ve not yet experimented with the direct to Dorico route)

Thank you, Janus. So, how do you go about it?

p.s. In midi, same thing, no velocity. This is a problem.

If you need special velocity data, I think MIDI is the only route.
Dorico will interpret written dynamics in XML to velocity, if specified by the Dorico expression maps.

I try to import in midi, and the velocities are absent. It doesn’t work either. Nor sustain (CC64), for that matter.

When you import MIDI, you can choose whether velocities and MIDI controllers should be preserved in the MIDI Import Options dialog: you need to scroll down to the bottom of the window to see the relevant options.

Hello Daniel. Thanks, I’m looking into it (but I thought I’d checked). I just found the velocities with the specific export from Cubase 14 to Dorico. Perfect for me. However, it seems that the sustain (CC64) is transformed into a playing technique (which isn’t so bad). Anyway, I’m looking at the options.

Update: ok it works. Velocities are preserved, and sustain is translated into pedal line. Thank you.

Hey @Mute,
allow me one question about this: by “velocities are preserved”, do you mean that Dorico has translated them into dynamic markings? Or just that velocities are stored somewhere under the hood and reflected in Dorico’s playback?

I’m looking for the first option, wondering wether I should upgrade to Cub 14 from 13 to save some work assigning dynamics manually.

Thanks
