Hi, I’m coming from Finale 27 (started in 1993) and I am exporting files to the MusicXML ( there is actually three options for saving an XML in Finale) and saving the file into a special folder. Then I open Dorico, hit import but only one part of six is showing. I cannot figure out how to get to the full score view because either: 1. I am saving the Finale file incorrectly; 2. I’m missing something in opening the full score in Dorico; or 3. I’m just an idiot. HELP!! Diane
Can you attach a copy of the XML file so someone can check?
If you do not yet have the access to attach, this may explain what you need to do.
Make sure you’re saving to XML, not “Linked Parts to XML”.
Don’t worry: I suspect there are going to be lots of detailed tutorials about XML transfer from all sorts of people over the next few weeks.
Hi. I am doing just that. Argh. I got one to work, then the next one did not. Could the age of the original Finale file be a factor?
Thank you so much, Diane
Can you upload an example?
Please, how do I do that?

You don’t need to use ‘import’ function. These days I’m exporting dozens of Finale files in MusicXML format, saving it on the desktop. Than I open Dorico, and choose ‘open’ in the file menu. Dorico than opens nicely the XML file. Honestly, I haven’t even noticed that there is an ‘import’ option before I read your question:)
Import will bring an XML file in as an additional flow to an existing score. It has its uses.
Thanks for letting me know! It means I can import an XML file in an opened Dorico file??? This should abreviate my process, as I first open the XML in a new file, than copy all and paste into the template, I’ve been creating…
Will try tomorrow:)
You can also import a Dorico flow from another file into the current score (again it will append the flow) - no need to copy/paste.
