Expression map for Spitfire Symphony Orchestra: Discover

Spitfire Audio recently released a free Discover version of their Spitfire Symphony Orchestra. Is there an expression map available for this yet, please?

I was going to post a link to the BBC SO Discover but I see it’s actually the SSO you’re after. I have created expression maps for the full library but it would be better if someone has the free version as without trying it, I’m not sure how well my maps would fit. Still, the library looks to offer rather more than the VERY basic BBC Discover.

Thank you, dko22. I did actually buy the full BBC SO but it proved too demanding for my iMac. As you say, BBC Discover is basic, but SSO Discover looks very useable to me. Maybe it’s time for me to learn how to create expression maps!

The BBC SO Pro is very demanding on system resources because of the multitude of microphone positions. Which is one reason why i only went for BBC Core. The SSO runs OK on my (roughly mid-range) system. If you really get stuck with Expression maps, I could try to do some research as to whether Discover perhaps it’s just subset of the complete SSO in which case possibly my maps may be of some use. But maybe there is someone else who has downloaded it and tried to create maps for Discover in which case they will be better placed to help.

SSO Discovery only has two articulations per instrument (long and short) - all the other switches simply play a demonstration note. On that basis I consider it to be useless.

if that is the case then clearly an Expression Map would be practically worthless. I had considered downloading to test for myself but it doesn’t appear to be possible – perhaps because the full version is already registered to my account or I’m doing something stupid… At any rate I can’t get it to appear in the Spitfire App.

UPDATE according to the intro video, there are only two round robins and one mic position but it certainly seems to have a much wider range of articulations, if not as many as with the full package obviously. it’s a 5Gb plus download as opposed to the 200Mb of BBC Discover which indeed did only have about 2 playing techniques. Where do you get the idea there are only two techniques? Have you installed it?

well I can answer my own question and you’re absolutely right, @Janus – although there are a range of techniques, most of them only have a demo note which is most certainly not suggested in the tutorial video. Needless to say, I have uninstalled it again after having gone to the trouble to install it in the first place. Complete waste of time, I’m afraid!

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts on this. It would seem that Spitfire Symphony Orchestra Discover is not the solution I was hoping for!

the full Spitfire Symphony Orchestra is excellent in many ways and particularly when on sale is widely regarded as the best “bang for buck” all in one orchestral library. I use it for most of my orchestral works these days as first preference. It’s a shame that the Discover version is so crippled but that shouldn’t put you off the full product.

Indeed. I have edited my last post accordingly.
