I’m trying to get my head around using expression maps in Cubase Pro 14, and have spent a couple of hours trying to set one up, using a descant horn KS VST in Musio, with 4 articulations,
Legato, sustain (arco), Staccato and staccatissimo. I’ve set them to some random events, all within the instrument range.
The first three legato events will play, as will the next sustain (A3) and the next 3 staccato notes. The G#2 (circled in red) will only play as staccato (the preceding articulation).
The last note in the section (circled in red) will only play as staccato.
Any suggestions as to what is going on would be very welcome.
Hi,
Are you sure, you set the correct Key Switches Notes, i.e. the Output Mapping?
Hi Martin, yes I doubled checked that. The KS’s are actually triggered by notes an octave lower than shown in the instrument. So C0, not C1, D0 not D1, etc.
I usually set the Articulation as Text and the Type as Direction, rather than Articulation (under Articulations, on the bottom right) .
No idea if this will make any difference, but it always works for me using a bunch of Kontakt and EastWest libraries.

Thanks, I did try Direction but couldn’t get anything to sound at all. I’ll give it another go.
The other things I do are to put the articulation a few ticks before the note, and make sure that the notes don’t overlap.
And that’s all I can think of.
A pro should step in now…

Yes, Direction worked, thank you! The first time I tried it, I got no sound, but that may be because the KS note values were not set correctly (Musio KS’s are given as an octave higher than they actually are on my keyboard).
It’s working now, although, writing in the articulations is a bit ‘clunky’, but I’ll get used to it.
