In an imported Finale file for string quartet , the natural expression is giving me a static sounding low C in celli and bass, whic I cant get rid of. I tried to search for the pitch range of the Halion samples, to set this above C 1, but cant find. Help?
your file probably has a keyswitch set to C1 in the imported file which Dorico is trying to play. Can you not simply filter out and delete these notes? Alternatively this is often seen when there is an incorrect Expression Map being used but if you’re just using Halion with default template, I would guess it’s more likely the former.
Thats where I am struggling. I cant find a way to filter it out. The pen tool in the midi window in Dorico does not affect the keyswitch, soo…Is there a hidden keyswitch window?
If you are using the wrong expression map, then it will be the map that is generating the keyswitch. It will not appear anywhere in the score. The solution is to change the Expression Map.

no, keyswitches won’t appear in a score created in Dorico but if for instance you import a MIDI file, they generally export the keyswitches simply as notes which will then appear in the score or key editor.
If you’re not sure, as Janus says, just attach the score and one of us should be able to see what’s happened!
Thank you. This was an xml import from Finale , yes .What I did was to create a new file and copy the music staff by staff. Now I have deleted the old file, so I cant share it with you, but what you write makes sense. But, in further imports, is there a way to block these unwanted keyswitches?
XML files do not contain any keyswitch data (Only MIDI files can do that), so the problem must have been the wrong expression map being used for that instrument.
yes – something’s not right here. MIDI certainly exports all the notes including keyswitches but MusicXML doesn’t (otherwise I’d have spent an eternity converting all my dozens of Sibelius files). Perhaps you could test with a new MusicXML export from Finale to see what happens? As long as you apply the Auto or Halion playback template, things ought to work correctly. If not, again the offer is there to post the project for someone else to check.
OK, will make another xml from the same finale file. But here is another related issue. In bar 35 in the attached file, the viola playback key-switches from pizz back to natural without any such info from my notation. I tried to notate pizz again in that bar, but I cant get rid of the natural keyswitch…any suggestions?

It is because the previous pizz (bar 32) has a duration that extends beyond the pizz mark in bar 35.
In general, do not give pizz/arco playing techniques any duration at all, otherwise confusing playback can happen (as you discovered). Just select a single note and apply the shift-p pizz.
