Expression Mapping

I am using Dorico Elements 5 and Halion Sonic 7.
I have followed the You Tube vids and created a map for the Strings 1 with basic Legato, Pizzicato and Tremelo. In WRITE mode I clicked on the PLAYING techniques and inserted pizz at the point I want it but when I play back it plays all notes as per what is selected in HSO 7 ie it does not play the pizz. I set the key switches to correspond with HSO ie NATURAL E0, PIZZ C#0, TREMELO F0.

I have not touched Playback Options Overrides or Mutual Inclusion Groups.

I have spent hours watching vids and looking at comments on the forum but to no avail. Can someone help me? I just want to be competent in getting it to work before tackling the other parts!!

Upload your project and we’ll try to help.

Hi Janus how do I upload?

Just drag your project file onto the message box (or use the upload button - the one with the arrow)

Ex Map Test.dorico (701.7 KB)

Sent it to myself!!

You’ve got the wrong octave for your keyswitches. (Using C3 as middle C, the Iconica Sketch instruments have keyswitches in the C0-F#0 range)

I suggest you rename your experimental expression map (HSO is a specific library - Halion Symphony Orchestra, which is not the same as Iconica Sketch)

Thanks Janus I’ll give it a try later. I left it at c4 as thats where it defaulted to originally. I’ll report back when I have tried it out.

Thanks Janus that’s worked. I’ll play around now. Its brought up iconica maps now so will get to grips before moving to next stage. Many thanks for help. Just one more thing how do I tell what octave to use with different VSTs?

You should refer to each VST’s manual. (Most non-Steinberg libraries use C4=Middle C)

Thanks Janus much appreciated.

So maybe give @Janus the Solution @The_Doc1
