One aspect of HALion that I really love is the support for loading/importing third-party sampler programs. The current Kontakt NKI support is great but the range could be extended to include more modern versions of NKI files. Currently the support is: Kontakt 1.x to 4.1 (except for encrypted files, scripted content, and containers).
Feature request:
In principle, I would support this feature request, but I wonder whether it would be viable for Steinberg to do this, as I’m not aware that anyone has successfully reverse-engineered the later (non-encrypted) proprietary NKI format in a way that this could be legally done.
This is the reason I stopped creating (my own personal) sample libraries in Kontakt years ago.
Given the current uncertainty around Kontakt (and Native Instruments), it might happen quicker that content owners of Kontakt libraries might begin publishing their content for HALion.
Ok.. Then this feature request is pretty much dead in the water.

A lot of us that have large investments in commercial Kontakt libraries and we’re now all locked in.
Unless the current owners sell Kontakt to a more open company, the future is looking bleak. The big concern is how long the old Native Instruments server infrastructure will be kept online, enabling e.g. a fresh installation to be activated.
The new corporate owners already expect people to “upgrade” to Komplete 26, which as far as I can see offers absolutely nothing to Kontakt users. It could happen at some point in the future that the only way to use existing libraries will be to pay a ransom to “upgrade” under the new owners.
I feel your pain. Might go all kinds of ways, hopefully somewhere good.

Just upgrading Kontakt & not Komplete is another option. Cheaper too.
Yes, but if your current Kontakt was acquired as part of Komplete, you don’t get a discount on upgrading only Kontakt, unless that will change under new management. The real problem is the uncertainty that’s currently there, and I don’t see that going away any time soon. InMusic, who can’t even develop decent MIDI drivers, have reportedly let go a lot of NI staff, so I can’t see this ending well.
That ship sailed for me ages ago. While I initially bought Komplete I’ve only upgraded Kontakt since then.
Time for Steinberg to hire an entire development team a la Dorico.
