Hallo. Mein erster Beitrag und neu bei Dorico… ich möchte den Tonumfang für Piccolotrompete nach oben erweitern. Kann mir geholfen werden? Vielen Dank. Das Sample endet bei C3.
Herzlich willkommen, @tobias.raegle.
The fact that an instrument’s range in playback ends where it does is a limitation of the sample set you use, rather than of Dorico itself. The only real “solution” is to use a different sample set which does contain those notes. (btw, isn’t C3 a rather low note for a trumpet?)
Another thing that seems related but isn’t is the fact that Dorico shows red noteheads when notes are out of range for an instrument. This is just a cosmetic thing, they will in fact play back (provided there’s a sample), they will print in black, and you can turn it off or adjust those ranges by going to Setup mode, flipping open the player, then clicking on the three dots next to the instrument and choosing Edit Instrument Definition….
Thanks. Yes, it is C5 and the sample isn´t playing any higher notes. It is not the red-notes-thing. I think it is just the sample. So do I have to change the sample? And is there any good idea for the same good sound? Or can i pitch the sample or can make the range bigger? Sorry for my english..
It’s not free, but rather cheap to get Noteperformer. Mainly for “classical” music.
No instrument range limit.

And if you’re more comfortable discussing in German, this forum has a corner for you: Auf Deutsch - Steinberg Forums .
Thanks for the Idea. I´m thinking of spending not more money.. but it sounds (hihi) good.
You could use one of the Trumpet sounds from the Halion Sonic Selection (eg) [GM 057] Trumpet, which has unlimited range.
Can you tell me, how I can switch the sound?
That’s because you have not set the correct Expression Map. (Yours is still set to Iconica Sketch… and the low note you hear is a keyswitch).
If you look at the picure I posted above , on the left (underlined), is the Expression Map that will work.
Thank you. It´s working. But this different and not so nice Sound ist really not my tast. But I can hear what I´m writing. That´s good! But thinking of getting another playback library like Note Performer to get a better feeling during the work and also to create better playbacks.. Any ideas of different options beside Note performer?
The VSL piccolo trumpet is quite good and they have expression maps for Dorico. Nothing will likely play as smoothly as NotePerformer (because synthesized vs. sampled), however it’s pretty agile and dynamic. https://www.vsl.co.at/products/studio/piccolo-trumpet
