Extra bar on new page

Hi all,

Merry Christmas!

I know I’ve seen this somewhere before, but I can’t find the solution. I have a dangling final bar on a new page. How can I move it to the previous page?

Thanks in advance.

You could put a note spacing change at bar 39 and make the default space for quarter note slightly smaller. This will make everything take up slightly less horizontal space, which will let Dorico put that last bar on the previous page.

You could also select something in bar 39, Ctrl/Cmd+click something in bar 53, and then click the Make Into Frame button in the left panel (or do Engrave > Format Music Frames > Make Into Frame).

Sorry, neither of those work. When I make the default space smaller it distorts the bar lengths (weirdly) but doesn’t move the last bar onto the previous page. When I do Ctrl/Cmd it gives me a drop down menu, but nothing about Make into Frame. I’m in Dorico 6. Does that make a difference?

In the Engrave mode, there is a “Move to previous system” button. Maybe I’m missing something, but wouldn’t that be the easiest solution for this?

In Engrave mode, select something on bar 53 and press comma.

Just for the sake of clarity, the “extra bar” on page 17 is a new flow, which you can delete in Setup mode, if not required.

It would be, but when I do it nothing happens.

That doesn’t work either. I clicked on the bar and pressed comma. Nothing. Humm . . .

I just found the solution! I added a bar at 52, copied and pasted 53 into that bar, then deleted the old last bar by Shift B, -1.

Thanks for suggesting all the other ideas. Happy New Year!

Do you have System Breaks showing? Perhaps there was one, but the Signpost wasn’t visible.

I don’t know, now that I’ve deleted it, but your question made me go back and review both Frame and System Breaks, concepts I’m still trying to sort out. BTW, thanks for all the videos and the Community support. I can’t speak for others, but I find the manual to be incomprehensible, at times. I’m sure it’s concise and logical to someone who already understands the Dorico system, but your assistance and the videos are essential for me.

I can’t speak for others either, but I am very happy for the manual. I hate it when the only option to learn how this work are videos (I have encountered this with other software), since that doesn’t work well for me. I’ve found the manual to be great in general, but I also agree that this forum is a place where I have learnt things and I appreciate the people who give of their time to help us who aren’t experts yet.

I’m with you. Between the two they’ve got it down for those of us who learn differently. I do use the manual, as well. It’s just that sometimes I need specific help. I’m happy to say that I have to ask less and less often.
