Hi. I’m very new to Dorico, having crossed over from Finale just within the last several weeks. Still a bumpy ride learning the new software, but each day I’m getting a step closer to learning how to drive this thing.
So, I am a hymn tune writer. The format for hymns places the tune name a line above the composer’s name. For text writers (lyricists), there are times when an additional line beneath is helpful, especially if someone translated the text.
However, I am not sure how to do this here. When I open the Project Info, I can type in one line only, which gets me halfway there. But pressing enter, and alt-enter, simply drops me to the next line.
A typical hymn tune format looks like this, found on the top right of the score, beneath the title and to the right of the score.
TUNE NAME
Composer (date)
A typical hymn text format with a translator looks like this, found on the top left of the score, beneath the title and to the left of the score, even with the Tune information.
Hymnist
Trans. by Translator
Is this a current feature that I’m missing? If not, can this be made into a new feature? Thanks.
You can include, as part of your page template, tokens to enable you to accomplish this — but you may have to substitute ones that you are not using such as {@projectCopyist@} or {@projectArranger@}. The token for “other info” allows for multiple lines which may work for you as well. Or, you can simply type the information into the frame without tokens, but this is more bothersome and may be problematic later in keeping track of your templates and changes.
In project info, go to the copyright or more info section. Enter your separate lines there. Cut and paste that into the appropriate field (eg. composer). It should display on separate lines. If it gets chopped off, go into engrave mode and edit the template to make the text frame bigger.
I wouldn’t say it is typical to put the words, music, tune or meter at the top of the page. I engrave hymns every day and see a wide variety of where the info is placed. (Many put it at the bottom left and leave the top for the hymn number and topic headings).
Thanks for that tip. I think I have done that in the past but didn’t remember how I managed to pull it off (being new to Dorico with an old brain)!
