I’m trying to add some simple cue notes to a drum part, and for some reason some of the cues have an extra layer of rests. The cued part - in this case guitar - is just one voice, yet for some of the cues I can see a whole rest above the melody. But then others are just fine. I’ve attached a screenshot of two back-to-back measures: the first one is what I want, and the second has the extra rest.
I don’t get that. You could try the hide rest around cue property in Engrave mode
Instead of two cues, why not just make the first one longer? Or maybe you have two voices in the drums/guitar.
Thanks Jesper. So I did the two different cues in my first post just to illustrate the problem. The same thing happens when I do a longer cue. But for some reason, when I do a longer cue (see bar 7 and 8 in screenshot, with “Hide Rests Around Cue” enabled) it reverses the extra rests. I don’t have a second voice on the guitar as far as I can tell. I’ve done plenty of cue notes in the past and not had this problem. I’ve attached the Dorico file as well, if that will help. I intend to have cue notes for the first 13 bars, but am just working with bars 7 and 8 for now to try and troubleshoot the issue. Thanks as always for the prompt response.
Thanks again. I’m not sure how I ended up with two voices on the guitar part. Is there an easy way to see how many voices are in a measure, other than selecting different colours? Sorry to bring it up, but in Finale it was possible to “View Layers”, and quickly see which voice is in which layer and edit accordingly - I assume there is a Dorico equivalent that I’m missing. Or perhaps it is just the voice colours? Thanks as always for the help.
If you want to put everything into one particular voice, I find the simplest way is:
Select all, right-click>voices>change voice>upstem voice 1
(It doesn’t matter if some of the notes are already in upstem voice 1!)
Hello All. I’m back again in this thread with a rogue rest in cue notes issue. All the previous suggestions worked great, and then I made a rookie error by deleting things with Insert Mode accidentally on (lesson learned there). I managed to get most things back to rights, but now have two measure with mystery cue rests in them. I’ve attached the file, and the measures in question are 14 and 15, specially in the voice and drum parts. Clearly there is a rogue cue command in there somewhere, but I can’t see how to delete it. As always, your wisdom is much appreciated.
Wow, how strange: I had quit Dorico after posting, and when I reopened the file just now those rogue rests are gone. So it seemed the ol’ “Turn It Off, Turn It Back On” routine actually worked. Sorry to waste your time on that - I swear they were there at the time of posting! Thanks for the reply.
