I cant choose where to put the fader in the channel strip. All elements seem to be pre-fader. Say I would like to have the compressor post fader and the eq pre-fader, it can’t be done in the channel strip. So I still have to revert to the inserts, then why use the channel strip at all?

You can’t set this for the Channel Strip effects. These are always Pre-Fader. You can set the Pre/Post Inserts, but always Pre-Fader.
