Hi, I work with a template which contains about 70 virtual instruments, things like bass guitar various drums, violins, cellos, horns of various kinds, and a large number of keyboards, electric pianos synths etc. When I load up a song it takes several minutes to load and several minutes just to close Cubase at the end of a session. So in a day perhaps 20 - 25 minutes just waiting as I load different things I am working on.
It strikes me that if I had a list of these favorite instruments and could just load them one by one along with the inserts for reverbs etc that it would be a very cool thing. Also a list of all my instruments would be very cool also. In Cubase you see the VI page when you go to choose a new instrument and it shows you the program but not all the articulations or intruments it contains. They have done this in version 3 of scaler and it is awesome, I wish this were possible in Cubase. The setup for each of these instrument in my template would have been worked on for hours over long periods of time to get just the kind of sounds that I like. If I could just choose them from a list instead of a template it would be a super resource saver, and ultimately save me time. On my fairly old system which has ssd’s and a 4 core i7 at 4ghz, it would be a great help to me.
I wonder if other people using templates to access complex individual instrument setups without having to load them all up at once would agree?
Hi,
About load times, you can disable tracks in your template and enable them as you require them. This will dramatically improve load times.
Also, look into Track Archives. You can export a whole bunch of tracks(along with their settings, inserts, sends etc) as a Track Archive and then import them back again in other projects. While re-importing, you are presented with a list of all the tracks that make up that archive. You can select the tracks that you specifically want.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
VJ
I can only second VJ’s answer. Track archives and disabled tracks are the way to go.
Regarding a nice list: You’ll have to organize track archive files yourself on OS level. That is create a nice folder structure in Finder/Explorer and give the files a good name.
Thank you for your advice, I will check into Track Archives.
