I’d love to see Cubasis Android eventually support a proper third-party plugin/instrument system, similar in spirit to AUv3 on iOS or VST on desktop.
I understand that Android doesn’t provide AUv3, and that simply copying an AUv3/plugin file into the Cubasis folder wouldn’t work. But since Steinberg is already able to integrate instruments such as Verve, Etude and HALion Sonic Play directly into Cubasis on Android, would it be possible to expose a supported Cubasis plugin SDK/API for third-party developers?
Ideally, developers could build native instruments and effects specifically for Cubasis Android, distribute them as installable/IAP content, and have them appear directly inside the Cubasis plugin/instrument browser.
This would be much better than requiring Android users to route audio between separate apps, and could potentially give Android a genuine mobile plugin ecosystem of its own.
I think this could be a huge feature for Cubasis, especially for Android users who don’t have access to AUv3.
And this seems pretty possible , given that ya’ll literally invented VST
Even if a fully public SDK isn’t practical, I’d love to see Steinberg consider some kind of developer partnership/integration program for third-party Android instruments and effects.
We encourage our users to let Google know that they’d like to see a solution similar to AUv3 for Android.
The more awareness there is around the demand, the greater the chance of such functionality being considered in the future.
The success of the iOS music app ecosystem, including DAWs and plug-ins, is closely tied to technologies such as AUv3, which make app-to-app integration much easier.
So make sure to let Google know.
Hopefully, they’ll make it happen one day.
How do you know App to App is wonky when literally there is no Daw on Android that has 1 app to app support? There is literally no company with capital that tries to develop for it… if nobody seriously tries to establish something lke that Google s not gonna try their to improve their midi capabillities.
The poblem with Android is that they are hellbend to conserve the battery usage and they actually want you to only use 1 app at the time.
Anyways.. there are other methods but if they dont get funding and support.. development goes slow,
I know google can do a lot about it, and am also aware of the development of AAP for android, I’ve tested the AAP previews through UAPMD and it works great tbh.
But these are some things that will take a lot of time I think.
But I’m VERY curious to know why y’all wouldn’t bring the Waves plugins to android. They would be such a perfect addition to the app, cuz cubasis stock lacks plugins for analysing the sound and lacks heavily for vocals, and i think the Waves bundle for Android would be a perfect next addition which would REALLY make Cubasis a perfect, complete DAW for android as well.
