Hello.
In my daily workflow I constantly need to ByPass multiple plugins that are related to one another but often discrete from the function of others. ( EX. In a given project some plugins are Stereo, some are Left only and some are Right only. It would be very valuable to be able to have the Stereo plugins grouped to hit a single ByPass button to bypass or engage them while listening - this would also be true of the Left and Right plugs as well). Fundamentally this is not only about ease of use and less clicks but about the ability to listen to audio quickly back to back to hear differences with various plug chains engaged/disengaged.
This would have another advantage as well (though not one that I have needed consistently ) and that is the ability to try different chains in the same Master Section simultaneously with on the fly switching.
Very much hope this is something that could be considered. Thanks for all of the great work that makes WaveLab such an amazing package to work with audio. Cheers
If you are working in a montage, a ‘workaround’ is to ‘create exact duplicate’. This allows you to instantly change between the two montages to compare different montage inspector settings.
Hello PG.
Perhaps a reasonable model for the functionality could be in the really well thought out current paradigms of the Master Section - a combination of the Clickable Icons in the Plugin Slots and the Speaker Configuration
A section like the Speaker Configuration could be used to Engage/Disengage ByPass on the Groups by clicking appropriate number. As an illustration, if the speaker configuration model were to be used as is, 8 fixed numbered groups would be available whether or not they are used (have plugins assigned). If the Groups were not preestablished, I suppose a dialog could be opened from that same space in which one could Create/Remove Groups
In the Plugin Slot an additional icon could be added to click on and open a dialog which would allow Assign/Unassign of that Plugin to one of the fixed/numbered or created Groups (like the Stereo/M/S/L/R assignment)
. There could be some default icon for unassigned or no group and when assigned could change to the number of the group. (Optionally the Plugin Slot could be colored the same as the ByPass button for that group)
This concept should accomplish the base level user requirements: 1) Assign/Unassign Plugins to Groups 2) Engage/Disengage ByPass on a Group 3) Create/Remove Groups*
*(this third requirement would only be added if the Groups were not preestablished and numbered)
Hopefully, this would also fulfill any requirements related to: 1) Not introducing complexity or UI clutter and 2) Not changing the primary User Experience as it exists
It should be noted that this concept purposefully does not address deeper functionalities that might be desirable for certain workflows that various users may have. These might include: 1) The creation of Hierarchical Sub Groups in which hierarchies of groups of plugins could be bypassed. 2) Plugin slots with Multiple Group Assignments
Some of the other professional users on the forum may have some additional or even better ideas but this is a concept that occurs to me initially. Is this what you were asking for?
