Feature request:create numbered musical notation below the standard five-line staff

Hi,

In Dorico, sometimes we need both create numbered musical notation , which is a notation system very helpful for beginners and is widely used in Asia. The competing software MuseScore already has a plugin for this. I strongly hope you will consider adding an option to display this notation below the standard five-line staff.

Numbered Notation, a.k.a. "Jianpu".

It is pretty a shame to know that most Chinese folk instrument players in Mainland China cannot read five-line staves (as they only can read Jianpu), while most of those who live outside of Mainland China can read them and do read them in most times. Numbered musical notation support?

Hi Daniel, Is it possible to support the numbered musical notation system in Dorico? It’s a widely used system in Asian music. If it can be an alternative view/format that can be converted to view and print, it would be great. Or at lease if it can be display in standard staff as a line above/within it, it would be great. I’m not adept enough with Dorico to accomplish this but I wonder if it can be done with something like the way shape notes are done? Instead of the shapes, one could have the numbers (along with the indications for octaves).

I guess those heads in Steinberg HQ already have their awareness of the importance of the Jianpu in the mainland China market. (I met some of them in Shanghai this October (2025)). However, it’s an Steinberg internal affair to decide “whether they will implement this feature” & “when to implement” & “when to disclose”. I know nothing about these internal matters. Let’s just wait for their news.
