Why does WaveLab not have a DIM button in the PlayBack Processing of the Master Section, like Cubase has in the Control Room. This seems such a small but important feature for mastering that can’t be too difficult to provide
Specifically asking that it is in PlayBack Processing (and post everything) so that it does not affect the behaviour of the Room Calibration software that I have setup in this section (so it does not affect any rendering) - in the same way that Cubase has the Dim post effects in the Control Room.
I agree this would be nice to have.
This being said, you can simulate this by adding a speaker preset (at the bottom of the meta section). In that case, you just have one button for this DIM.
I had thought about that - but I have a number of speaker and headphone setups which have Room (and Hearing) Calibration plugins which both vary based on the setup and which also provides translation checks, which then makes it more difficult if I’m testing different listening environments and bouncing between normal and dimmed.
My current workaround is to use the Gain plugin (from the tools, from memory) which supports A/B settings (unliked Leveler) as the last in the PlayBack Processing section, and so can have A at 0dB and B at -12dB, which seems to work sort of OK - but having this in the Master Section would make a lot more sense.
In the meantime, while we’re waiting for the feature to be implemented, you can try using this as a much more complete and useful option to the “Gain” plugin:
I had seen that comment and had tried that, but (at least on Windows) it needs the Master Section to be in focus for the short cuts to work, possibly as I have the Master Section detached as a separate window on a second monitor - so I would have to click on the Master Section and then press the short-cut key(s).
The short cuts for Master Section work only when the master section is docked/active. Or even otherwise if this new button will come, a short cut for that will not work unless user clicks/dock the master section.
I would like to see the following options coming to WL in the future
Master section being active whether it is docked or not (This will solve many problems for users)
Plugins hidden when loading plugin presets - without nag screen. (which was how WL used to work before)
Deselect Open Options Dialogue when Selecting Plugin Preset.
Save a Preset.
Recall the Preset
The Plugins end up opening
Previously this used to work depending on the state of plugin when preset was saved. If it was hidden while saving, the plugins were loaded hidden. I was referring to the window you show as the nag screen (Open Options Dialogue/Load Master Section Preset)
A shortcut used to trigger a plugin that is loaded hidden.
In any application, there can only be one active window at a time. I mean, only one window with the keyboard focus. If you want the focus to be on the Master Section, click on it.
When the Master Section is docked, it is not an independent window. It is part of the main window.
Also, I do not understand why you are not making master section active when it is floating, providing that it is active when docked.
I have the Master Section on my secondary monitor, undocked from the main window, with all the monitoring plugins setup on the second screen - partly to give as much screen estate for the editor…. so when I am clicking on the main window to select the part of the track to play and using the transport, I then have to click separately on the Master Section for any keyboard shortcut to work.
Have now simply added the Gain plugin to the Playback Processing with -12dB setup and the plugin saved in Bypassed state. One click to enable and one click to disable (bypass) the dim - but taking up small amount of screen estate. This way I know 100% that it is not doing anything sonically to the output (other than -12dB gain when enabled).
Can’t you resize the Main Window encompassing both monitors and then dock the Master Section in the area that is on the secondary monitor?
I know that is possible but i don’t know what your setup is and if the fixed Menus would be on the preferred monitor.
I can do it here but setups differ, so…
Can’t you resize the Main Window encompassing both monitors and then dock the Master Section in the area that is on the secondary monitor?
Not in my case - the main monitor is a 1080p multi-touch monitor angled below the secondary monitor, which is an Ultra-Wide HD monitor - so spanning the monitors would not work in any sensible way.
If you’re really raw doggin’ it without a monitor controller, Sonnox ListenHub is pretty much essential in my book for a virtual monitor controller with many great features.
I use this for my mobile setup and couldn’t be without it now:
