Folder Group Tracks have arrived in Cubase and Nuendo. Now it is VST Live’s turn! 
As VST Live projects become larger, especially when they contain many audio, MIDI and automation Tracks, it can become difficult to keep the Tracklist organized.
It would be very helpful to have Folder Tracks, preferably with optional group functionality, so that we could:
- Organize related Tracks inside collapsible folders;
- Show or hide groups of Tracks more easily;
- Move, mute or manage several Tracks together;
- Optionally route the contained Tracks through the folder’s group channel.
This would greatly improve the organization and usability of more complex live projects.
Could you explain, what will be the difference to the existing folder track? Or what functionality you wish to add to it.
The main difference would be that the Folder Track could also work as a Group Channel.
I see two main advantages:
First, the Folder Track would have its own volume fader directly in the Track view, allowing a global level adjustment for all Tracks contained inside that folder.
Second, the Tracks placed inside the folder could be automatically routed to that Folder Group. Currently, adding several Tracks to a Folder Track only organizes them visually; it does not change their audio routing.
For example, when using backing Tracks for a drum kit, I may have separate Tracks for kick, snare, toms, overheads and so on. If I want to control them as one drum group, I currently need to route every Track individually to a separate Group Channel.
This is manageable for a single Song, but for larger shows with many Songs and Tracks, it becomes a lot of repetitive manual work.
So the request would be for an optional Folder Group Track that combines organization, automatic routing and global volume control, similar to the Folder Group functionality recently added to Cubase and Nuendo.
To be honest. These are things I’ll do in a DAW (Cubase) and then export the group-mix to VSTL (audio mixdown only of the group and import the .wav as one track into VSTL). VSTL is no DAW, so I keep things like tracks as low as possible to reduce the complexity and with it latency and increase stability.
