Actually, if you want one hand on the keyboard and another hand on the midi keyboard, it’s quicker to do, Escape, Enter, L, which will let you re-pitch the existing note(s).
That’s quite a laborious arm motion, with three keystrokes, though.
It may be that you can get away with simply L and then the left arrow key, which is surely less laborious…
