Feature request - Key Sig Text Token

Most of the charts I use each week have the key signature in a box on the top right of the first page so we can see the key at a glance, even without looking further down the page.

Is there a way to use a text token that reads the project’s key signature and displays it as text in this box?

This way, if I change the key signature of the project, the text box would update automatically. I often keep a song in multiple keys on my band’s music stands for rehearsals.

Thanks!
Ron

This is the problem. Key sigs are not at the project level, or even the flow level, but can come on any beat. The best I can suggest for this is to use one of the fields in Project Info. Each flow has its own set of fields.

Welcome to the forum, Ron. I think we could implement a token that would look explicitly at the very start of the flow and report the key signature there. I’ve made a note of this and we’ll think about how to implement this in a future version.

Fantastic. Thanks so much! I’m excited to keep learning the software. Blessings,

I love this! Looking at the start of the flow would be a great first step… but…

Daniel, I actually would love a way to do this for ANY key signature change in a piece. In my choirs, I often have some people that aren’t totally proficient at reading key signatures - writing it in to help with their education would be helfpul. I currently do this just using text… But as Ron points out, this isn’t particularly robust as it doesn’t stand up to transposition!

Thinking about this even more, and it would also be helpful to be able to put in key changes that aren’t “officially” there. If a composer tonicizes another key for a passage I often tell my choristers to change keys even if the key signature doesn’t change.

I used to do this in Finale by having special chord suffixes that read “maj” and “min”. I could put in a chord change and select one of those, and it would then read something like “C maj”. These chord changes would tranpose along with the key throughout the whole piece.
