Feature request: Midi part to pattern event

I would like to be able to convert a midi part into a pattern event. Both melodic and drum pattern events.

Implementation idea:

Drag-and-drop a midi part onto a pattern event.

Since the conversion is very likely to be more or less destructive one could get a warning if this is the case.

It would have to hard quantize events. Maybe that’s the reason why this feature has not been implemented yet? Or maybe there is a different reason like a comletely different coding structure of a pattern event compared to a midi part.

Yes there is surely quite a lot of things to consider for Steinberg if they implement this.

I think this is key. The Patterns themselves don’t seem to exist as objects on the Track like MIDI Parts. Rather they are like an element of the actual Track. Try this:

  1. Create a New Track that uses Patterns
  2. Add a Pattern Event and enter a Pattern into it.
  3. Delete the Pattern Event from the Track
  4. Duplicate the Track
  5. Create a Pattern Event on the duplicated Track
  6. When you open this new Pattern Event it will have the original Pattern in it

I don’t know if you’re aware but you can now actually convert midi to pattern (drum only) in the latest groove agent.

It’s a start and maybe a sign that Steinberg are working on this.

That’s nice. Don’t think I ever used the internal Groove Agent sequencer/drum pattern editor since I’m always in Cubase. Thanks for sharing.
