[Feature Request] Multi-Paste with Layer Routing

Hi team,

I would like to request a workflow enhancement for real-time sound design and foley editing in SpectraLayers.

[What] Currently, we can already paste a copied clip in real-time during playback. However, doing so also pastes the time selection, which causes the playback to stop.

I would love to see this expanded into a Multi-Paste system (Paste 1, Paste 2, etc.) that routes to designated target layers, along with an option to paste only the audio asset without overwriting the time selection, so playback never stops.

[Why / Use Case] When spotting sound effects (like alternating left and right footstep samples) or layering music cues alongside SFX in real time, I need to switch between different sounds and layers on the fly without interrupting the audio.

Right now, even if I try to paste rhythmically during playback, the pasted time selection instantly stops the transport. If we could have “Paste 1” for the left foot (Layer A) and “Paste 2” for the right foot (Layer B) just stamp the audio data at the playhead position while leaving the playback running, it would make the workflow seamless.

[How it could work]

  • Multiple Paste Buffers with Routing: Allow users to assign a specific clip and a “Target Layer” to dedicated paste commands (Paste 1, Paste 2, etc.).

  • “Paste Audio Only” Option: Add a preference or toggle so that pasting does not overwrite the current timeline selection or stop the transport.

  • Real-time Stamping: Pressing the shortcut for Paste 1 stamps that specific audio onto Layer A at the current playhead position while the playhead keeps moving. Pressing Paste 2 stamps its clip onto Layer B, without stopping or needing to manually change layer focus.

This would perfectly leverage SpectraLayers’ unique layer system and greatly benefit audio post-production workflows.

Thank you for considering this request!
