Hello forum,
I’ve spent several months slowly migrating from Presonus Studio One v6 to Nuendo after their switch to a Subscription based model and being tired after several years of experiencing bugs on macOS that were never fixed. Last year I got some hands on experience with Nuendo at a friends’ place, bought it during the Steinberg 40th Anniversary Sale and have been thrilled with the transition and results so far.
One of the few really great features of Studio One that I am starting to miss was that you could flick between open sessions and Copy/Paste track processing, automation, names, everything between open sessions with ease.
Unless I’m missing something, and please correct me if I am, at present this is not possible with either Cubase or Nuendo. You can open multiple sessions, but only their Editors are available for copying - my understanding is that the MixConsole is reserved strictly for the Active Project. Therefore, if I am working on two tracks, make changes to the mix of Track 1 and would like to translate these to Track 2, I have to do 1 of 3 things.
-
Save the existing Track 1 mix as a Template, create a new Session with said template and migrate all of the relevant data from the old mix into the new template session.
-
Save individual Track / Channel / Instrument Presets, and load them one at a time.
-
Copy the Track Processing / Automation / etc on the primary session, then activate the secondary session and Paste the processing this way.
The problem with Option 3 is that this is a time consuming process, and becomes more time consuming the more software instruments, processing, plugins etc you are running. Being able to flip between MixConsoles for each project without having to Activate them specifically would be a huge workflow boost for me, and I’m sure others would benefit from it.
I’m currently working on a very stylised EP that uses the same software between each track, but I’m now on Track 5 and much prefer the end result of the mix for this track, enough that I now want to duplicate certain settings to Tracks 1-4, but from what I’ve found there’s currently no quick way to achieve this.
Just a thought, perhaps I am missing something in which case I would be happy to hear what that option is.
