Feature Request: Play Mode Expansion / Block Editing

Hello,

Thank you first and foremost for the team for all the work that they do.
It’s been a pleasure working in Dorico for the past two years, and a far more intuitive experience than any other platform.

My biggest request (and what I already assumed existed in Dorico when I first jumped ship) is to allow editing of the blocks in Play mode, that are currently only for viewing. Especially if you’re still writing a piece, this would enable you to very quickly try out different structures, to move one part over somewhere else, to try different forms quickly by moving all parts or duplicating them somewhere else…etc.

This is the one thing left that keeps me tethered to a DAW when I’m composing and I would love to see it implemented in Dorico, especially since there’s already a space for it (we can edit MIDI notes of a clip in Play mode, so why not give us the capability to edit the clips themselves?)

I hope other people agree with this and we see it happen sometime soon.

Welcome to the forum.

All this is perfectly possible in Write Mode.

Sure, but not with the same immediacy and ease as it would be if it were possible within the Play mode’s GUI.

It is also possible to edit a note duration or position in write mode from within the score, but it is still possible to do this on the piano roll in play mode - these two aren’t mutually exclusive.
