Feature Request | Plugin Settings import/export

Feature Request
A simple GUI-driven function to import/export plugin organization.

To reinstate previous plugin organization in WaveLab on Windows, it is understood that users can backup and restore the file here:

AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\WaveLab [ed./v#]\Preferences PluginSettings.dat

However, there are a few concerns with this method:

  1. It is a manual process that is not apparent to most users.

  2. The user is not sure what other items besides strictly plugin organization may eventually be included in PluginSettings.dat. Therefore, overwriting an entire .dat file may have unintended consequences now or at some point in the future.

  3. After installing a newer version of WaveLab, a user may want to apply plugin organization from a previous WaveLab version. An import/export routine could gracefully handle any changes to PluginSettings.dat between versions; but manually overwriting the newer version’s PluginSettings.dat with an older file may have unintended consequences unknown to the user.

As plugin organization can be a very time-consuming and tedious process that users want to avoid repeating, this feature would be greatly appreciated.

Having a way to selectively import/export settings (not just plugin settings), is indeed desirable. It’s already on the to-do list. Yet it’s difficult to tell now when this will happen.
