Feature Request: Pre-reading

Hello! I am a music teacher and I would love to compose some pre-reading music for my students. This means music without the staff so the students can focus on rhythms and notes without worrying about the staff. Usually the note name is written inside of the note (for quarter note it is written in white, for half notes it is written in black, etc). There is still the general contour of the notes, so it could be placed on an invisible/white staff.

If this was added on Dorico it would be a game changer for music teachers! Especially because Kodaly teachers can use this when making mastercopies, which is a key part of their training each summer.

Something like this?

If so, you can do it thanks to the Zero-line staff by @FredGUnn and the “Pitch Name” noteheads.

And it’s also possible to hide the barlines and the Time Signature, as @jesele is showing below.

So you can download the zip file provided in this post.

Then follow these instructions.

The DefaultLibraryAdditions folder is here on Windows (don’t know on Mac!) Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 6\DefaultLibraryAdditions

If it doesn’t exist yet, you can create it.

I am having trouble with this. When I download it, it downloads as a document, not a zip. And then when I search that on my MacBook Air nothing comes up. I can’t find any files for Dorico at all, though I do have Dorico on my laptop

You could try to download the file i provided in my previous post.
Open it, then goto Library->Instruments. Find the 0-line instrument and click the star icon at the lower left to save it as default. If you then create a new document, the 0-line should be there.
