When using a gradual tempo change in Dorico, the playback currently interpolates linearly between the starting and final tempo. While this works reasonably well for short changes, it can sound quite unnatural for longer ones, because the relative tempo change begins very abruptly and then slows down over time. A more realistic approach would be to use a logarithmic curve as the default.
Additionally, from my experience, orchestras often make small tempo adjustments at the beginning of each bar and typically reach the target tempo about one bar before the written final tempo.
It would be great if Dorico offered the option to switch between these different behaviors.
