Just a feature request for the wishlist: it’d be cool to have a “File” → “Save a copy” option to create snapshots of project files as in Final Cut Pro etc.
So instead of files such as:
Blackbird v1.dorico, Blackbird v2.dorico final, Blackbird v3 final final.dorico
Your final file will always remain Blackbird.dorico, but you have backup snapshots such as:
Blackbird SNAPSHOT 1 June 1200.dorico, Blackbird SNAPSHOT 1 June 1530.dorico, Blackbird SNAPSHOT 8 June 2335.dorico.
As I say, it’s just an idea for the wishlist… it’s easy enough to do at the moment with Save As but this would be quicker - are other people using a similar system?

Dorico already has a Save New Version command that basically does what you want.
This isn’t surfaced in the UI, but you can invoke it from the Jump Bar and/or assign a shortcut key to it in Preferences > Key Commands.
One difference is that the current project open in Dorico actually becomes the latest snapshot. That is, after I opened Three Madrigals and saved a new version, my open file was Three Madrigals-01.
You can’t customize the saved file name – but of course you can always look at the file timestamp to see when it was saved.
That is helpful but it’s still the older “version numbers” system rather than the more modern “single file with snapshots/history” system that’s increasingly dominant e.g. in video editing, collaborative documents, design tools, software development etc. I wonder if/when Dorico will move towards this model.
