Hello.
I frequently use Transfer and would like to ask if it is possible that we could acquire the ability to make a selection in a given layer and click a Transfer button as an alternative to dragging the brush/cursor with the mouse.
With a selection, one would be able to spend the time to get every part of the selection right and then make transfer as opposed to using the mouse to 'paint ’ precisely all of the parts to transfer while trying to be very careful to not hit material that is not to be transferred. This would avoid the challenges of series of mistakes and un-dos. Thanks very much for the consideration. Fingers crossed. Cheers
Crossing my fingers to.
Hey even though it is not exactly the same, this is already possible using the “Cut Special” function.
Since you can either cut to a new layer or to the layer below, it takes a little bit of layer management and that can be a pain in some cases, and you can’t adjust the transfer percentage, but it works and I use it a lot.
Perhaps it can be of help while Robin doesn’t get around to it.
like @henrique_staino I use cut special a lot
I use brush tool set to “add to selection” and shift-x to layer below once I complete my selection;
then shift-x multiple times by using re-select (ctrl-shift+D)
if selections are complex; I will save a selection
the selection" library" tho is not contained in slp files afaiaa, manual says “Selections are not saved with projects. They are only valid during the session.”
so if using saved selections; to get a saved selection from one slp to another multiple slp editing would have to be undertaken (which I never do)
further, my workflow is mostly cut to layer below;
then transfer;
then clone to cover holes in the program from cuts and transfers
I seldom use Heal
for transfer, I seldom choose the target in the drop down in the tools settings bar anymore; I juggle the layers so the target is always below the source…I find juggling layers easier and faster
This is a brilliant solution for many use cases. As you indicated, it results in the same outcome as a transfer in the times in which one is looking to remove all of some content in one layer and place it in other layers. (With a little layer juggling) Its really great that SL has a lot of flexibility to allow accomplishment of many things in multiple ways (not perfectly, but enough for some situations). Glad you guys took the time to post in this thread and share this workaround for transfers. Thanks for doing that. Cheers
If you use SL in Cubase in ARA mode and open Parts from 2 different Tracks it is not possible to move content from one Track/Layer to the other by using Cut/Copy Special.
It is possible however with the Transfer tool.
Oh, I see! never bumped into that to be honest. I’m always removing noise from stuff and I dread having more than one event open in ARA at a time.
But that’s a good point!
Yup, that’s why ’Selection for transfers’ would give such great possibilities.
