FEATURE REQUEST: Tempo Track - Seeing the tempo value?

Is there no way to show the value of the tempo points on the tempo track itself?

In other words, a nice big label that says “120” where the point value is?

SUMMARY: Please add flags in the tempo track to show the tempo value, similar to how Marker flags look. Have an enable/disable setting somewhere to turn the flags on/off.

Only in the Info Line, Inspector (or Tempo Editor).

If you hover over the point it will also show the value. Although selecting it and looking on the Info Line seems easier to me.

Yes, I understand that. But what would better (hint: Steinberg, add this to your feature list), is to have a static flag visible so I can see the tempo value without having to hover or look over at the instector. Just like the 1 and 2 flags in the marker track on this picture.

This would help anticipate the coming tempo change while recording and minimize looking around the screen.

Tempo changes come at a surprise to you even though you planted them…?

Jokes aside, it is of course legit to wish for bpm numbers itself being displayed in the tempo track. Even if the graph shows the overall direction and values are displayed as described above - it would be nice to have a display within the track similar to markers.

Seems like most of the work to do it is already done. Just take what currently gets displayed when hovering over a Point and show that for all the Points without the hovering. Give it an on/off switch in the Inspector & that’s it.

hint: editing your topic title and adding a Feature Request tag will greatly improve the odds of this occurring.

Yeah, that’s what I meant with

But you summed it up better than I did

I too miss that visual feedback when looking at tempo events on my tempo track.

Didn’t think I would ever do this (big Cubase loyalist :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:), but this is what this looks like in Logic:

Thanks. That’s a really good example. Here’s what it looks like in Pro Tools. I like having the tempos all along one line. Less eye tracking is needed.

Nice request…

Here’s StudioOne v6

Of course, you can use ‘jumps’ as well as ramps shown here. Also nice bezier curves. And, if you hover/click on the nodes you get a popup with exact data point info (2 decimal places).

(have used all my votes, so unable to add one here.!)

Anyone got Reaper installed.?

I prefer the Pro Tools one line version, but if Steinberg were to be very smart they’d code two or three different ways to display them and let users decide which way they prefer !

+1 here as well.

I could live without it as I don’t use that many tempo changes, but it is a useful suggestion nonetheless!

You can vote the topic above rather than writing +1, since whatever we write as a text doesn’t count. TBH also the voting system seems not to count but at least that’s the “right” way to agree to a feature

I think this StudioOne version is the nicest looking here, the most immediately clear where your eyes don’t have to scan up and away from the node itself. It’s all clearly displayed in the same place – also would love bezier curves.

Here’s Ableton. They make it easy to draw the curves and add bezier, ramps, steps intuitively. But there’s even less to see here about BPM, so we’re not missing much here

I appreciate the joke, but in all seriousness, this idea came about when I was asked to add a guitar solo to someone else’s track, and the tempo changes kept tripping me up. Being able to see them coming nice and big would have avoided a mess of retakes.

I only ever see a changing tempo, in the Tempo Page, which has never really aided or assisted me at all, since I can do everything that I need to do in relation to tempo, in the Project page.

The only thing I can’t do, is use Bezier curves, in the Tempo Track, which is disappointing, as I would like to be able to experiment, with any potential to create a smoother and more defined rhythm, using VST.

As would I, since the DAW apps, we use here, do not have this ability, unfortunately and since it does not (currently) work, I can only assume that Steinberg, have good reason, otherwise it would already exist and would likely work consistently, with all the other aspects of the program(s).

I hear you, powernemo. But I have run out of votes unfortunately..

Exactly.

Lots of tempo changes in film scoring as well. Would be great to see what the tempo changes are.
