Feature Request -- The ability to define our own playback structure independent of notation

I’d like to make a feature request where we can define the sequence of measures for playback independent of notation, similar to the “Repeats” dialog in the “Interpretation” section of Sibelius’s Play ribbon.

That would solve many problems – we could choose to simply have Dorico follow the playback form as we’ve defined it using Dorico’s repeat instructions, but for jazz or pop songs where we might want to have different sections repeated at different times in the music, multiple times which can’t be done easily using the built-in repeat instructions in Dorico.

Having the ability to check a box to ignore the notation’s repeat structure but follow the sequence of measure numbers which we define ourselves would make a lot of pop/rock/jazz song notation a whole lot easier.

OR add the ability to define our own repeat commands like “To Bridge” as a repeat instruction and define the word “Bridge” as a repeat target much like the built-in D.S. and Sign. If we could create those as valid repeat structures that could help solve the problem.

Yeah, I miss Finale’s flexibility with this. In Finale you could create any sort of repeat marking you wanted …

… and have it jump to wherever you wanted on whichever pass you wanted:

The ability to add custom Repeat Jumps (we can already use the Custom text feature in Engrave) and specify their target would be a nice addition to see.
