I’m going to repeat this request from much further back in the past year, I simply don’t remember if it was a comment in another related thread, or if I had started an actual feature request thread… but here goes:
Please, it would be immensely appreciated for exactly this type of situation to be able to replace one time signature by an identical (equivalent, in terms of beats) but differently notated time signature.
The example: I require 7/4, to have dotted/dashed lines dividing each measure into 4/4 + 3/4.
But to get my dashed lines (and complete bars and not ersatz combined bars which screw up multi-measure rests in parts) I need to use the “4/4|3/4” notation, which inserts a “non-functional” dashed line at the correct place.
However, I would MUCH rather the measures show as being in 7/4, which would make it easier to read.
Please allow Dorico to take this 4/4|3/4 and “display as” 7/4 (which is the exact same number of beats.)
I don’t disagree with your request, but you could do the following: Start with 7/4, then the following bar change it to 4/4|3/4, and hide it. The image is attached is what you want, yes? At least it can be done with only a little extra work!
no, this only works in music where all instruments are playing at the same time.
Using the pipe character when establishing the time signature (thus giving the dual time signature) in a large orchestral work, SOME instruments get the dashed mid-bar line, while anyone not playing does not, and gets a simple whole bar rest.
You can see this in my example above.
If one instrument has multiple measures of rest, then that first measure in “real” 7/4 will not amalgamate with the subsequent measures of 4/4|3/4.
