I’ve been collecting some requests for a couple of months, I’d rather post them here now before they get outdated. Hopefully some will get into de development team’s radar.
Bugs
Correct the bug in multiple tremolos with tuplets that do not show the correct number of bars
Rehearsal marks (measure numbers) should show the correct number when independent time signatures are assigned with concurrent barlines
In Write mode, when entering a trill with the popover before entering the note, the note makes no sound
Playback:
Glissandi playback from/to grace notes
Harmonic playback in grace notes
Playback of ornaments (other than trills, at least mordents)
In Write mode
Fanned beams up to four (1/32th)
Option to hide noteheads, stems and ledger lines from Write properties
Glissando lines for both notes in artificial harmonics by default
Natural harmonics ° position inside the slurs by default
Articulations and ornaments placed correctly in notes under a slur
Playback techniques popover: allow multiple techniques (separated by commas?)
Invisible barlines
Option to change the number of staff lines (even none) per instrument/bar as a staff property, keeping the input elements in place (unlike cutaways)
Possibility to hide cresc./decresc. markings (literal not haripins, or hairpins too) and/or Possibility to change the wording of cresc./decresc.
Grace notes position (before/after the barline) set individually per staff
Playback techniques tucking order setting also in Write mode options and correct display in Write mode too (galley view), independently of manual tweaking
Possibility of hiding gliss lines (witout affecting playback)
When changing a rehearsal mark category, a drop-down list or selector should be available according to the type of mark to choose the correct index (i.e. a letter for letters)
Engraver options
Option to not show brackets and numbers in tuplets (as a default)
Notation options
Option to have invisible barlines as default, and or:
Option to set tick barlines dimensions by default for the whole project
I wouldn’t mind this being an option setting in preferences but I don’t think I would want it to be the default. Am I misunderstanding? Same with invisible barlines, setting tic barlines or anything in your post that I missed stated “as default.”
To me, those would be preference choices and not defaults. A default, to me, means that Dorico would have these settings for everyone “right out of the box.” Not judging at all - simply trying to better understand.
I do like everything you propose except for the “default” perspective.
edit condensed staves directly in Page View rather than via Condensing Change (e.g., reassign players to different voices with v, move them between staves with m/n, hide some objects but show others, etc.)
fix bug where independent time and key signatures are hidden on condensed staves
also fix bug where other staff-attached objects (dynamics, slurs, techniques, etc.) sometimes disappear when condensing staves
add solo player staves above rather than below section player staves
allow more objects under octave lines and slurs (e.g. playing techniques, ornaments, harmonics, etc.)
allow grace notes after the note they’re attached to (e.g., trills) as well as before, rather than having to attach them to the subsequent note
and “nice to haves”:
enable compound and simple time signatures to exist simultaneously (without using tuplet workaround)
allow staccato dots to be placed under slurs and staccatissimo wedges over them (without using playing technique workaround)
I fear this might be very difficult to implement (given the way Dorico is structured); but it is true that Finale achieves this with its “independent time signatures” assigned to a specific staff (Staff styles).
I therefore think that, in the event of mixed time signatures, the ideal solution would be to have a small tick box to select “coinciding bar lines”, so as to also retain the current behaviour where the independent staff is completely separate from its surroundings.
On other point, I totally agree with @kasky1 about default settings with Tuplets. I do prefer keep all control on it, especially as Dorico now offers an option that allows you to hide the number and brackets during repeated tuplets, and to set the number of repeats before the tuplet is cleaned up.
